Class of 2016 Graduate Spotlight: Gladys Smith

Gladys Smith

Graduate Spotlight: Gladys Smith, MRE
REALTOR® University Class of 2016

How do you think the Master’s program impacts the real estate industry as a whole?

I think the Master’s program will give REALTORS® a wide range of information and knowledge to be successful in the industry.  This program not only teaches you about buyers and sellers but it teaches you how to market yourself and your business.

Why did you pick your concentration?

I have been in the business over 30 years and I don’t think you ever learn everything.  There is always something new to learn.

Tell me how you feel the Master’s program will impact your future in a positive way.

I have my own company and this program has helped me to run the business better and more effectively.

Tell me a bit about yourself in general.

I am single and 63 years old.  I don’t have any children but have many nieces and nephews.  I opened my company in 1999 and now have only three agents.  I have had more agents but some have gone out on their own and few have gotten out of the business.

I stay busy with work and active in the community. I am on Chamber Board of Directors, RVP with Louisiana Association, a commissioner for the Ouachita Riverfront Development, and on the board for the Southside Economic Development District.

What or who encouraged you to enroll in the program?

My eagerness to continue to learn was my encouragement to enroll.

What did you find the most challenging about the program?

I was not ready for all the papers that I had to write, but it made me learn how to write them.

Earning a Master’s degree and working full time is demanding. What helped you survive those moments?

I have never been a person to quit.  I did lots of praying, this is what keeps me going.

What would you tell prospective students about the program?

If they want to advance in this business and get the most out of any one program, this would be the way to go.  This Master’s program gives you the whole package in learning real estate.

Congratulations Gladys Smith!

A graduation ceremony will take place on May 13th at the REALTORS® Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo in Washington, D.C.
