Meet Your Student Services Representative

It is essential to student success to form a relationship with your Student Services Representative. What does a Student Services Representative do? They work with students once they have started classes. They are available with resources and strategies to ensure students successfully complete their courses as well as help them select courses and register for upcoming semesters. They are also available to help students identify what areas or topics might be useful to discuss with their professor.

Meet REALTOR® University’s Student Services Representative, Ashley Parik.

FrAshleyPicom: Woodridge, IL

Educational background: I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree  from Western Illinois University

What motivates you? I am very self-motivated. I believe that you can truly achieve anything in life if you want it bad enough. My students also motivate me; working full time, going to school online, and balancing life at home is not easy. Hearing student success stories of how they have overcome different obstacles to achieve their academic goals is incredibly motivating and uplifting.

Why did you get into working in higher education? I had a wonderful relationship with my Academic Advisor when I was in college. She was always there for me when I needed her; to give me guidance, to make sure I was on the right path despite having changed my major three times, and to just listen to what I had to say. She was always rooting for me, and wanted to see me succeed. I saw the positive impact that she was able to have on my life and my education, and I want to be able to do the same for others. I want to make a difference in someone’s life and help them achieve their goals, like she helped me achieve mine.

What is a memorable piece of advice you have been given that you feel helped you succeed? Remember why you started. When things start to get stressful and you feel like throwing in the towel, remember why you started, and why this is important to you. This not only applies towards your educational goals, but with any goal in general. You can do it!!

What tips and tricks would you like to share with potential students? Time management is key. It is easy to get caught up with a busy day at work or at home, and find that school gets put on the backburner. I like to print my calendar out for the week every Sunday and fill it in with work, appointments, house chores, etc. I then recommend looking at your upcoming assignments for the week, and filling in any open spots on your calendar with schoolwork. By doing this, you can ensure you are making time to get your schoolwork done.

Hobbies: I love spending time with my family, friends, husband and dog. I enjoy all sports, but my favorite sport is baseball- Go Cubs!!! I also enjoy spending time at the gym and living a healthy lifestyle.

Favorite quote: “The day will be what you make it, so rise like the sun, and burn.” William C. Hannan
